Welcome to the Haunting of Yacht Haven! What began as a small Halloween tradition has grown into an extraordinary annual event that attracts visitors from across the region. Set in the heart of the Yacht Haven neighborhood in Mount Vernon, Alexandria, Northern Virginia, our front yard transforms every October into a spine-tingling Halloween wonderland featuring over 200 animatronics and countless chilling surprises.
Our story began years ago at our old house, where we decorated with about 20 Halloween items and invited friends and neighbors to celebrate and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. In 2017, we moved to our new home with only a small collection of decorations. Despite the modest setup, our neighbors loved it, giving us the encouragement to grow bigger and better each year. Today, the Haunting of Yacht Haven is a community tradition filled with fun, frights, and creativity.
A Community Effort
Every year, starting the weekend after Labor Day, our family, friends, neighbors, and regulars gather for our annual setup party. Together, we pull decorations from storage, assemble animatronics, and enjoy mouthwatering food from Suzy-Q’s BBQ. The result is a thrilling experience with themed areas, immersive pathways, and interactive elements designed to delight and scare visitors of all ages.
A Unique Experience
At the Haunting of Yacht Haven, you’ll wander through illuminated pathways lined with LED lights, marveling at themed areas that range from Hollywood horror icons and killer clowns to witches, warlocks, and creepy children. Our animatronics don’t just sit still—they talk, move, and bring the Halloween spirit to life. And when you arrive, you’ll be greeted by Waving Wally, one of our favorite animatronics who waves you into the adventure.
On Halloween night, we open our doors to thousands of children and families for trick-or-treating. Each trick-or-treater receives a thoughtfully wrapped bag of candy, with peanut-free and candy-free options available. A special table at the entrance allows kids (and adults!) to show off their costumes and collect their treats.
Behind the Scenes
The fun doesn’t end on Halloween. After the big night, our dedicated crew returns to help us pack everything up and store it safely until next year. And, of course, Suzy-Q’s BBQ is there once again to keep everyone fueled and happy.
The Spirit of Giving
In the weekends leading up to Halloween, we also host a small shop where you can find handcrafted, Halloween-themed items like wooden lanterns, backlit village decorations, collector coins and cards, soaps, candles, and other unique treats. These one-of-a-kind items make perfect keepsakes or gifts for Halloween lovers.
